Vehicle History

The HMMWV, commonly known as the Humvee, stands for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. It became one of the most recognizable American military vehicles of the late Cold War and modern era, serving in many roles including troop transport, cargo movement, communications, ambulance service, weapons carrier, and reconnaissance support.

The TOW missile carrier versions of the HMMWV gave light units a mobile anti-armor weapon system. Instead of carrying only machine guns or supplies, these vehicles mounted a TOW anti-tank missile launcher on the roof, allowing crews to engage tanks, armored vehicles, bunkers, and other battlefield targets from a relatively small and mobile platform. TOW stands for tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided, describing how the missile is launched and guided toward its target.

Desert-painted HMMWVs became especially familiar during U.S. operations in the Middle East, where the sand finish helped the vehicle blend into arid terrain. Compared with a main battle tank, a HMMWV TOW carrier was lighter, faster to deploy, and easier to move, but it could still deliver serious anti-armor firepower. This combination of mobility, flexibility, and firepower made the armed Humvee an important part of modern U.S. Army operations.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
