Model Overview

This Ready-Made Artitec model recreates a Belgian military Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404S open-bed cargo truck in a dark green finish. The compact four-wheel-drive vehicle features a canvas-covered cab, an open cargo platform with raised side panels and upper rails, and Belgian military unit and vehicle markings. The model’s proportions, elevated stance, deeply treaded tires, and distinctive rounded cab accurately capture the rugged appearance of the original Unimog.

Fine exterior details include clear cab windows, windshield wipers, side mirrors, headlights, grille detailing, the Mercedes-Benz emblem, front bumper equipment, a spare wheel, rear towing hardware, and reproduced underbody components. The open cargo bed includes visible plank flooring and small fastening details, while subtle weathering gives the truck an appropriately used military-service appearance. It arrives fully assembled and painted for immediate placement in a Belgian Army, Cold War, transport, or military logistics scene.

Vehicle History

The Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404S entered series production in 1955 as a lightweight, highly mobile all-terrain truck in the 1.5-ton class. Early vehicles used an 80-horsepower six-cylinder gasoline engine derived from the Mercedes-Benz 220 passenger car. The 404S became the most-produced Unimog series and proved particularly suitable for military, civil-defense, and emergency-service applications.

In Belgian military service, the open-bed configuration provided a flexible vehicle for carrying personnel, supplies, and field equipment. Its compact dimensions, high ground clearance, and all-terrain design allowed the truck to support units away from paved roads. This model represents a green Belgian Army example with an open cargo body and period unit markings.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
