About the Real Thing

The Humvee, officially known as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV, became one of the most important U.S. military light tactical vehicles of the modern era. Designed as a highly adaptable platform, it was produced in many versions for troop transport, cargo movement, command support, ambulance service, weapons mounting, and reconnaissance.

Armored Humvees fitted with roof-mounted weapons were widely used for convoy escort, patrol, base security, and support roles. The .50 caliber machine gun gave the vehicle heavy defensive firepower while still preserving the mobility and flexibility that made the HMMWV valuable. These vehicles were especially common in desert operations, where they supported larger armored and infantry formations, guarded supply routes, and provided mobile fire support.

In sand-colored desert finish, armored HMMWVs became a familiar sight in U.S. military operations from the Gulf War era onward. Their combination of speed, off-road capability, modular body styles, and adaptable weapon stations made them useful across many mission types. While not a tank or armored personnel carrier, the armed Humvee filled an important role between light transport and heavier combat vehicles.

The .50 MG Humvee remains one of the most recognizable configurations of the HMMWV family, representing the vehicle’s shift from general-purpose utility transport toward armed patrol and convoy protection duties.

About Artitec Read-Made

Artitec’s ready-made models are authentically handcrafted, made from high-end resin. Each model is pre-assembled, painted by hand, and often subtly weathered to create a realistically aged look and feel. Models are unique collectables, manufactured in limited production runs.

  • Artitec models are made using plastic (resin) casting technique, under vacuum conditions. This allows for finer, to-scale details, unachievable by other methods. Small details are added by using etched brass parts.
  • These ready-made models are pre-assembled by experts. Assembling model kits can be time consuming and require significant effort to achieve high quality results.
  • Models are hand painted by disciplined artists. Painting and weathering models is not a quick activity, and requires years of refined skill. Perfect for customers looking for realism without the time commitment.
