About the Real Thing

The Humvee, officially known as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV, became one of the most recognizable U.S. military vehicles of the modern era. Developed by AM General, the Humvee entered service in the 1980s and was designed to replace several older light tactical vehicles, including earlier Jeep-style utility vehicles.

The cargo and troop carrier versions formed the backbone of the Humvee family. These vehicles were used for moving soldiers, equipment, supplies, communications gear, and command personnel across a wide range of terrain. Their four-wheel-drive layout, high ground clearance, and adaptable body design made them useful for everything from convoy support and headquarters duties to field logistics and general utility work.

In desert operations, Humvees were commonly finished in sand-colored paint to better match arid environments. Vehicles like this could be seen supporting larger armored formations, operating around command areas, escorting convoys, and carrying supplies or personnel behind the front line. While tanks and armored fighting vehicles often received the most attention, vehicles such as the Humvee were essential to keeping military units moving, supplied, and connected in the field.

The Humvee’s versatility made it a defining support vehicle of U.S. military operations from the Gulf War era onward.

About Artitec Read-Made

Artitec’s ready-made models are authentically handcrafted, made from high-end resin. Each model is pre-assembled, painted by hand, and often subtly weathered to create a realistically aged look and feel. Models are unique collectables, manufactured in limited production runs.

  • Artitec models are made using plastic (resin) casting technique, under vacuum conditions. This allows for finer, to-scale details, unachievable by other methods. Small details are added by using etched brass parts.
  • These ready-made models are pre-assembled by experts. Assembling model kits can be time consuming and require significant effort to achieve high quality results.
  • Models are hand painted by disciplined artists. Painting and weathering models is not a quick activity, and requires years of refined skill. Perfect for customers looking for realism without the time commitment.
