Vehicle History

The Humvee, officially known as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV, became one of the most recognizable U.S. military vehicles of the modern era. Developed by AM General, the first production vehicles were delivered to the U.S. Army in 1985. The HMMWV replaced several older light tactical vehicles, including the M151 Jeep and various utility trucks.

Cargo and troop-carrier configurations were important members of the HMMWV family. Depending on their equipment and seating arrangement, these vehicles could transport personnel, supplies, tools, ammunition, and other field equipment. Their four-wheel-drive layout, high ground clearance, and adaptable body design allowed them to support logistics, headquarters, maintenance, and general utility duties across a wide range of terrain.

During operations in the Persian Gulf, many U.S. Army vehicles were repainted in desert sand colors to better suit the arid environment. Some equipment arrived in its original green finish and was repainted after reaching the theater. Cargo HMMWVs supported military units by carrying personnel and equipment, traveling with supply movements, and performing essential duties behind the front line.

The HMMWV’s versatility made it a defining support vehicle of U.S. military operations from the Gulf War era onward.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
