The model features the Sheridan’s distinctive low-profile hull, compact turret, 152 mm gun-launcher, shielded turret-mounted machine gun, smoke launchers, and tall antenna. Extensive stowage—including tarps, packs, bedrolls, equipment bags, containers, and a fuel can—creates a convincing combat-ready appearance. Vehicle History

The M551 Sheridan was officially designated an armored reconnaissance and airborne assault vehicle, although it was commonly regarded as a light tank. Developed to support airborne forces, it used a lightweight aluminum-alloy hull and could be transported and delivered by air. The Sheridan entered service in 1967 and carried a crew of four. Its principal weapon was the M81 152 mm gun-missile launcher, supported by a coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun and a turret-mounted .50 caliber machine gun.

The Sheridan combined relatively light weight with substantial direct-fire capability. Its 152 mm weapon could fire conventional cannon ammunition as well as the MGM-51 Shillelagh guided missile. Later M551A1 vehicles received improved fire-control equipment, and a Tank Thermal Sight upgrade was introduced in 1990 to improve nighttime and reduced-visibility operations.

By the mid-1980s, the 3rd Battalion, 73rd Armor Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division was the principal active U.S. Army unit still operating the Sheridan. The battalion deployed to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Shield in 1990. When the ground campaign began in February 1991, its Sheridans led the 82nd Airborne Division’s advance into Iraq, engaged Iraqi forces around Tallil Air Base, and provided direct-fire support against fortified positions and bunkers.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in service. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
