Vehicle History

The Humvee, or High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), was developed by AM General to provide the U.S. military with a highly mobile and adaptable light tactical vehicle. Entering service in the 1980s, it replaced several older vehicle types and became one of the most recognizable wheeled vehicles in U.S. Army service. Its off-road mobility, modular design, and ability to carry different equipment and weapons made it useful in a wide range of operational roles.

Armored Humvee variants fitted with a roof-mounted .50 caliber machine gun were widely used for troop transport, convoy escort, patrol work, and infantry support. The added armor improved crew protection, while the heavy machine gun gave the vehicle strong defensive firepower against light vehicles, personnel, and threats encountered on the move. In woodland camouflage, vehicles like this were especially appropriate for training exercises and operational environments where concealment in temperate terrain was important.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in service. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
