About the Real Thing

The Humvee, officially known as the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV, became one of the most versatile light tactical vehicles used by the U.S. military. Designed to replace several older light utility vehicles, it served in a wide range of roles including cargo transport, troop movement, communications, ambulance duties, and weapons carriage.

One of the most important combat versions mounted the TOW missile system. TOW stands for Tube-launched, Optically tracked, Wire-guided, a long-serving anti-tank guided missile developed to defeat armored vehicles at extended range. Mounted on a Humvee, the TOW system gave U.S. Army units a highly mobile anti-armor platform that could move quickly, take up firing positions, and engage enemy tanks or fortified targets.

Armored TOW Humvees combined mobility with improved crew protection, making them well suited for frontline support and anti-vehicle defense roles. Vehicles in woodland camouflage were especially associated with training and operations in temperate environments, including Europe and U.S.-based field exercises. Compared with a standard utility Humvee, the TOW-equipped version had a much more specialized battlefield purpose, serving as a fast and flexible missile carrier for mechanized and cavalry units.

The Humvee TOW carrier became a recognizable part of modern U.S. military forces, bridging the gap between light tactical transport and dedicated anti-armor fire support.

About Artitec Read-Made

Artitec’s ready-made models are authentically handcrafted, made from high-end resin. Each model is pre-assembled, painted by hand, and often subtly weathered to create a realistically aged look and feel. Models are unique collectables, manufactured in limited production runs.

  • Artitec models are made using plastic (resin) casting technique, under vacuum conditions. This allows for finer, to-scale details, unachievable by other methods. Small details are added by using etched brass parts.
  • These ready-made models are pre-assembled by experts. Assembling model kits can be time consuming and require significant effort to achieve high quality results.
  • Models are hand painted by disciplined artists. Painting and weathering models is not a quick activity, and requires years of refined skill. Perfect for customers looking for realism without the time commitment.
