Vehicle History

The Humvee, or High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), was developed by AM General to provide the U.S. military with a highly mobile and adaptable light tactical vehicle. Entering service in the 1980s, it replaced several older vehicle types and became one of the most recognizable wheeled vehicles in U.S. Army service. Its off-road mobility, modular design, and ability to accept different mission bodies made it useful far beyond basic transport duties.

Shelter-equipped Humvees were used for command, communications, maintenance, and specialized support roles. The enclosed rear shelter provided a protected workspace for radios, electronic equipment, planning functions, or field headquarters tasks, allowing units to operate closer to the front while remaining mobile. In woodland camouflage, vehicles like this were especially common in training exercises and temperate operating environments where headquarters and support vehicles needed to blend into the same field conditions as the combat units they served.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
