Model Overview

This ready-made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec model recreates the German Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicle in Bundeswehr service. It is finished in NATO three-color camouflage with German military markings and detailed features including armored side skirts, a turret-mounted 20 mm autocannon, coaxial machine gun, antitank missile launcher, roof hatches, external stowage, lights, tracks, and twin radio antennas.

The model is primarily constructed from resin, individually assembled, hand-painted, and subtly weathered for a realistic operational appearance. Its modern Bundeswehr configuration makes it well suited for German Army formations, NATO exercises, military installations, and contemporary HO-scale dioramas.

Vehicle History

The Marder entered service with the German Army in 1971 as a tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed to carry mechanized infantry alongside the Leopard 1 main battle tank. Its layout places the engine in the front, a two-man weapons turret near the center, and the troop compartment at the rear with a large access ramp. The Marder’s 20 mm automatic cannon, coaxial machine gun, and antitank missile capability allow it to support dismounted infantry and engage enemy troops and armored vehicles.

The Marder 1A5 upgrade was developed to improve protection against mines and applied to 74 vehicles. Changes included protection against blast and projectile-forming mines, a redesigned troop compartment and equipment-stowage system, roof-mounted seating, anti-spall lining, steel armor skirts, wider tracks, stronger brakes, and improved ventilation. These modifications increased the vehicle’s combat weight to approximately 37.4 metric tons and made the 1A5 particularly suitable for operations where mines and improvised explosive devices posed a significant threat.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
