Model Overview

This ready-made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec model recreates the German Marder 1A5 infantry fighting vehicle in a transport-ready configuration. It is finished in NATO three-color camouflage with German military markings and detailed features including the turret-mounted 20 mm autocannon, coaxial machine gun, armored side skirts, roof hatches, external stowage, lights, tracks, and running gear. The raised radio antennas found on the standard version are omitted to represent the vehicle prepared for transport.

The model is primarily constructed from resin, individually assembled, hand-painted, and subtly weathered for a realistic operational appearance. Its train-load configuration makes it especially well suited for military flatcars, rail yards, loading areas, Bundeswehr deployments, and contemporary HO-scale dioramas.

Vehicle History

The Marder entered service with the German Army in 1971 as a tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed to carry mechanized infantry alongside the Leopard 1 main battle tank. Its layout places the engine in the front, a two-man weapons turret near the center, and the troop compartment at the rear with a large access ramp. The Marder’s 20 mm automatic cannon, coaxial machine gun, and antitank missile capability allow it to support dismounted infantry and engage enemy troops and armored vehicles.

Rail transport allows armored vehicles such as the Marder to be moved efficiently over long distances while reducing fuel consumption and wear on their tracks and running gear. Before loading, projecting equipment may be lowered, removed, or secured to keep the vehicle within railway clearance limits. Military flatcars carrying Marders are commonly associated with Bundeswehr deployments, training exercises, and the movement of mechanized formations between bases and operating areas.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
