Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a late-production German Wehrmacht Jagdpanther tank destroyer in a heavily weathered three-color camouflage finish. Its low fixed superstructure carries the exceptionally long 8.8 cm Pak 43 L/71 gun in a rounded armored mantlet, while the sharply sloped frontal armor, angled casemate sides, open roof hatches, periscopes, access covers, and full-length Schürzen side skirts capture the distinctive late-war configuration.

Fine exterior details include side-mounted tow cables, pioneer tools, gun-cleaning rods, equipment containers, spare track sections, engine-deck grilles, circular access covers, and twin upward-curving rear exhaust pipes. The Panther-derived running gear features large interleaved road wheels, detailed drive sprockets, rear idlers, and finely reproduced tracks. Authentic tactical and vehicle markings contrast with the muted dark-yellow, green, and red-brown camouflage, while dust, fading, worn edges, track discoloration, grime, and restrained rust create a convincing field-used appearance.

Vehicle History

The Jagdpanther, officially designated Sd.Kfz. 173, was a German heavy tank destroyer that combined the Panther tank’s chassis and mobility with a heavily sloped fixed superstructure. Its principal weapon was the powerful 8.8 cm Pak 43 L/71, supported by a five-person crew and protected by frontal armor reaching 80 mm. This combination provided considerably greater protection than many earlier German tank destroyers while retaining the mobility needed to accompany armored formations.

Production began during 1944, with approximately 415 vehicles completed before the end of World War II. Powered by the Panther’s Maybach HL230 engine, the roughly 45.5-tonne vehicle could reach approximately 46 km/h. Jagdpanthers served with German heavy tank-destroyer units on both the Eastern and Western fronts, where their long-range firepower made them especially dangerous when operating from prepared or concealed positions. Late-production vehicles incorporated ongoing manufacturing revisions to external fittings, engine-deck details, and exhaust arrangements.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
