Model Overview

A Ready-Made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec Bischoff Polytrac universal construction machine equipped with a long lattice boom and suspended clamshell grapple. This unusual wheeled machine features a tractor-derived chassis, large rear tires, smaller front steering wheels, an open operator’s position, and an elevated material-handling attachment, making it well suited to construction sites, aggregate yards, industrial facilities, and railroad-served businesses.

The yellow finish has a heavily used industrial appearance, with dust, grime, chipped paint, and rust-toned wear visible across the chassis, engine compartment, boom structure, and grapple. Contrasting dark red wheel rims add visual interest, while the model includes fine details such as hydraulic cylinders and lines, lattice-boom bracing, access ladders, mesh grille panels, operator controls, open metal seating, lights, and a realistically weathered clamshell bucket.

Vehicle History

Bischoff-Werke of Recklinghausen introduced the Polytrac during the 1950s as a versatile construction machine built around a tractor-derived wheeled chassis. Rather than being limited to one task, the Polytrac could be configured with interchangeable equipment for loading, excavating, grading, lifting, and material handling.

The Polytrac 1200 family was produced from 1954 through 1966. Available versions included the air-cooled HL 1200 with a Deutz engine and the water-cooled HW 1200. Attachments offered for the machine included loader buckets, grabs, forks, backhoe equipment, dozer blades, and crane equipment, allowing one base machine to perform several different jobs on construction and industrial sites.

The grapple-equipped configuration used a raised boom and suspended grab for handling loose materials such as sand, gravel, coal, scrap, and other bulk loads. Its combination of mobility and interchangeable attachments reflected the postwar demand for compact, multipurpose construction machinery.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
