Model Overview

This Ready-Made Artitec model captures the German Tiger II heavy tank with the later flat-front production turret commonly known among collectors as the Henschel turret. Its imposing long-barreled main gun, broad sloped hull, side skirts, overlapping road wheels, tow cables, pioneer tools, rear exhaust system, and open turret hatch are reproduced in finely rendered 1:87 HO-scale detail.

The model features a monochrome dark-yellow finish over deeply textured Zimmerit coating across the hull and turret. Subtle weathering brings out the recessed details, tracks, running gear, tools, and exhaust system, while the black-and-white Balkenkreuz turret marking provides a restrained military identification. Artitec’s Ready-Made models are hand-painted and constructed primarily from resin with etched-metal detailing.

Vehicle History

The Tiger II, officially designated the Sd.Kfz. 182 Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. B and also known as the Königstiger or King Tiger, was a German heavy tank introduced during World War II in 1944. It combined thick sloped armor with the powerful 8.8 cm KwK 43 L/71 main gun. Henschel produced the hull, while Krupp designed and manufactured the turrets; the flat-front version commonly called the Henschel turret is more accurately described as the production turret. Only 492 Tiger IIs were produced, and their immense weight and mechanical complexity limited mobility and reliability. Zimmerit was a patterned protective coating intended to reduce the ability of magnetic mines to adhere to the armor. It was applied from 1943 until its use was discontinued in September 1944.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
