Model Overview

A Ready-Made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec US Army M1A1 Abrams in NATO three-color camouflage. This highly detailed model depicts the main battle tank in an operational field-service configuration, with its long 120 mm main gun, roof-mounted machine guns, smoke launchers, turret stowage, rear bustle-rack storage, side skirts, rear grilles, road wheels, tracks, and small U.S. Army markings.

The green, brown, and black camouflage is enhanced with hand-applied dust, grime, subtle rust, and wear effects. Tarps, packs, spare equipment, and other turret stowage give the model a convincing service-used appearance suitable for late Cold War armored formations and field displays.

Vehicle History

The M1A1 Abrams was an upgraded version of the original M1 Abrams main battle tank. Introduced after the first M1, the M1A1 brought a major firepower improvement with its 120mm smoothbore main gun, replacing the earlier 105mm gun used on the original M1. It also included improved armor protection and other upgrades that made it one of the most capable Western main battle tanks of its era.

Designed for high-intensity armored warfare, the M1A1 combined strong crew protection, advanced fire-control systems, heavy firepower, and excellent mobility for a tank of its size. Its gas turbine engine gave it impressive speed and acceleration, while its stabilized gun system allowed crews to engage targets accurately while moving. The tank was supported by multiple machine guns for close defense and battlefield flexibility.

NATO camouflage Abrams tanks are closely associated with U.S. Army operations, exercises, and forward-deployed armored units in European and temperate environments. The green, brown, and black camouflage scheme helped break up the tank’s shape in woodland and mixed terrain, contrasting with the sand-colored Abrams tanks later made famous during desert operations. The M1A1 went on to become a defining American main battle tank of the late Cold War and post-Cold War period, serving in major U.S. operations and forming an important step in the continuing evolution of the Abrams family.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
