About the Real Thing

The M1 Abrams was introduced as the U.S. Army’s new main battle tank in the early 1980s, replacing the older M60 series and giving American armored units a major increase in protection, mobility, and firepower. The original M1 version was armed with a 105mm M68A1 main gun and supported by machine guns for close defense, including a commander’s .50 caliber machine gun and 7.62mm machine guns.

The Abrams was designed around a heavily armored, low-profile hull and turret, advanced fire-control systems, and a powerful gas turbine engine. This combination allowed the tank to move quickly for its size, fire accurately while on the move, and provide strong crew protection. Its composite armor and separated ammunition storage were important advances over earlier American tank designs.

Green-painted M1 Abrams tanks were a familiar sight during the Cold War period, especially in U.S. Army training, exercises, and forward-deployed armored units before desert camouflage became closely associated with later Gulf War operations. The M1 formed the foundation for the later Abrams family, including the M1A1 and M1A2, and established the basic layout that would make the Abrams one of the most recognizable modern main battle tanks in the world.

About Artitec Ready-Made

Artitec’s ready-made models are authentically handcrafted, made from high-end resin. Each model is pre-assembled, painted by hand, and often subtly weathered to create a realistically aged look and feel. Models are unique collectables, manufactured in limited production runs.

  • Artitec models are made using plastic (resin) casting technique, under vacuum conditions. This allows for finer, to-scale details, unachievable by other methods. Small details are added by using etched brass parts.
  • These ready-made models are pre-assembled by experts. Assembling model kits can be time consuming and require significant effort to achieve high quality results.
  • Models are hand painted by disciplined artists. Painting and weathering models is not a quick activity, and requires years of refined skill. Perfect for customers looking for realism without the time commitment.
