Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a U.S. Army M4A1 Sherman medium tank in a heavily weathered Olive Drab finish. It features the variant’s distinctive rounded cast upper hull, compact 75 mm turret, vertical volute spring suspension, open turret and forward crew hatches, and a turret-mounted .50-caliber machine gun. White Allied stars and USA registration markings provide an authentic World War II appearance.

Extensive crew stowage is carried across the rear deck and turret, including bedrolls, tarps, bags, packs, and equipment boxes. Additional details include welded applique armor patches on the hull and turret, a hull-side tow cable, pioneer tools, lifting rings, engine-deck panels, rear lights, towing points, and finely reproduced tracks and running gear. Dust, fading, grime, rust, and worn track surfaces give the model a convincingly battle-used finish.

Vehicle History

The M4 Sherman was the principal American medium tank of World War II, designed around reliability, mass production, and ease of maintenance. The M4A1 variant was distinguished by its rounded, one-piece cast upper hull, unlike the welded hull used on the standard M4. Early M4A1 tanks combined the 75 mm main gun with a gasoline radial engine and vertical volute spring suspension, providing a dependable and mobile platform for engaging armored vehicles, infantry, and fortified positions.

The M4A1 entered production in 1942 and served with U.S. and Allied forces across North Africa, Italy, Western Europe, and the Pacific. Although later German tanks carried heavier armor and more powerful guns, the Sherman remained effective through its mechanical reliability, standardized components, strong logistical support, and availability in large numbers. Its adaptable chassis also supported numerous specialized vehicles, helping establish the Sherman as one of the most recognizable armored vehicles of World War II.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
