Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a U.S. Army M3A1 Half-track Personnel Carrier presented in a covered transport configuration for use as a military train load. The vehicle retains the M3A1’s distinctive front unditching roller, sloped engine hood, rounded front fenders, armored windshield shutters, side armor panels, and closed rear access doors. A fitted canvas cover encloses both the cab and troop compartment, with realistically reproduced folds, fastening straps, seams, and weathered fabric texture.

Exterior details include side-mounted fuel cans, bundled equipment over the front fender, exhaust components, grab handles, towing fittings, rear lights, a rear-mounted fuel can, and the complete half-track running gear. The front wheels feature deeply treaded tires, while the rear chassis includes drive components, bogie suspension, road wheels, and continuous tracks. White recognition stars, authentic unit and vehicle markings, and rear caution stenciling complement the faded Olive Drab finish, which is weathered with dust, grime, edge wear, and restrained rust tones.

Vehicle History

The M3A1 belonged to the American M3 half-track family, which combined a conventional front steering axle with tracked rear running gear. Designed primarily as an armored personnel carrier, it transported infantry alongside mechanized and armored formations while providing protection from small-arms fire and shell fragments. Vehicles from the M3 family were also adapted for reconnaissance, ambulance, communications, command, and weapons-carrier duties.

The M3 used a White 160AX six-cylinder gasoline engine and could reach approximately 45 mph on the road. The standard personnel-carrier configuration accommodated its operating crew and an infantry squad. More than 40,000 American half-tracks and related variants were produced during World War II by manufacturers including White, Autocar, and Diamond T, and they served extensively with U.S. and other Allied forces.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
