Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces the armored Landing Vehicle Tracked LVT(A)-2 as deployed during the fighting on Iwo Jima. Its unmistakable amphibious design is captured through the broad boat-shaped hull, armored forward cab, exposed upper track runs, sloping bow, and large open troop compartment. Artitec produces the model in 1:87 HO scale using hand-painted resin with fine photo-etched details.

The vehicle is finished in a weathered three-color camouflage scheme combining sand, olive green, and reddish-brown areas. Yellow “A20” vehicle markings and paired red recognition stripes appear across the bow, hull sides, and rear. Additional details include three pintle-mounted machine guns, a long radio antenna, cab vision ports, handrails, rear grilles, a detailed open interior, and individually rendered track components. Dust, grime, faded paint, and track wear give the model the appearance of a vehicle operating in the harsh conditions of the Pacific campaign.

Vehicle History

The LVT(A)-2 was an armored version of the LVT-2 Water Buffalo cargo carrier. It retained the open cargo compartment and amphibious track system of the LVT-2 while adding armor to the cab and hull, an armored driver’s hatch, rotating periscopes, and self-sealing fuel tanks. LVT-2 family vehicles transported troops and supplies from ships through the surf and across difficult Pacific island beaches, including during the Iwo Jima campaign.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
