Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces the U.S. LVT(A)-1 amphibious armored vehicle as deployed during the Pacific island campaigns of World War II. Based on the LVT-2 amphibious tractor, the armored LVT(A)-1 was developed to provide heavier fire support during assault landings and featured an enclosed turret armed with a 37 mm gun along with additional machine-gun armament. Artitec specifically depicts this vehicle in a Saipan configuration.

The model is finished in a heavily weathered olive-drab/green appearance with prominent U.S. white-star markings, blue recognition panels, the vehicle name “BLOCK BUSTER”, and realistic rust and wear along the hull, fittings, and track system. Fine details include the turret-mounted 37 mm gun, rear machine-gun positions, open hatches, radio antenna, towing fittings, handrails, engine-deck details, and the LVT family’s distinctive exposed amphibious tracks.

Vehicle History

The LVT(A)-1 was the first armored fire-support version of the Landing Vehicle Tracked family. Developed from the LVT-2, it received an armored hull and a turret closely related to that of the M3 Stuart light tank, armed with a 37 mm gun, along with additional machine guns. The vehicle was intended to accompany amphibious assaults and provide direct fire support as troops established beachheads across the Pacific. Artitec’s historical description notes that approximately 510 LVT(A)-1s were produced and that the type saw combat supporting U.S. forces during early Pacific amphibious operations before being superseded during 1944 by the more heavily armed 75 mm LVT(A)-4.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
