Model Overview

This Ready-Made Artitec model depicts a British Army Chieftain Mk 5 main battle tank in a heavily weathered Cold War field configuration. The model captures the Chieftain’s low hull, broad cast turret, long 120 mm main gun, six-road-wheel running gear, and full-length armored side skirts.

The olive-green finish is broken up by broad black disruptive camouflage patches and extensive pale dust, grime, chipped edges, and rust-toned track wear. Detailed features include the turret-mounted machine gun, commander’s cupola, smoke grenade launchers, turret stowage baskets, bundled equipment, engine-deck grilles, towing fittings, headlights, rear exhaust components, and British tactical and vehicle markings.

Vehicle History

The FV4201 Chieftain was developed as Britain’s principal Cold War main battle tank, combining heavy armor and a powerful 120 mm main gun in a low-profile design. Its unusual reclining driver position helped reduce the height of the hull, while the four-person crew operated from the driver’s compartment and large cast turret.

The Mk 5 introduced an uprated engine and became one of the principal production versions of the Chieftain. The type served as the backbone of British armored formations for much of the Cold War and remained in service into the early 1990s as newer Challenger tanks entered service.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
