Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces the captured British Mark IV Male tank “Heinz” as operated by the German Army’s Sturm-Panzerkraftwagen-Abteilung 14 during World War I. Its hand-painted camouflage combines green, brown, and beige areas with German Iron Cross insignia, blue circular markings, and the vehicle name “Heinz.” Extensive fading, grime, chipped paint, rust streaking, and track wear create the appearance of a heavily used battlefield vehicle. Artitec identifies the model as a ready-made 1:87 HO scale model representing the German Army of the German Empire.

The model captures the Mark IV’s distinctive rhomboid hull, full-length tracks, projecting side sponsons, 6-pounder guns, and machine-gun positions. Additional details include the external unditching rails and beam, securing chains, exhaust system, open access door, individual rivets and armor plates, track links, towing fittings, and realistically weathered running surfaces.

Vehicle History

The British Mark IV entered service in 1917 and became one of the principal tanks of World War I. The Male version carried two 6-pounder guns in projecting side sponsons together with machine guns, while the Female version relied entirely on machine-gun armament. Its rhomboid hull and tracks running around the vehicle were designed to cross trenches, shell craters, and other obstacles found across the Western Front.

German forces captured more than 170 Mark IV tanks during 1917 and 1918, repairing and returning several dozen to service as Beutepanzer, or captured tanks. These vehicles were repainted in a German three-color scheme using clay yellow, green, and red-brown and marked with prominent Iron Cross insignia. Artitec’s model depicts “Heinz,” one of the captured Mark IV Male tanks associated with Sturm-Panzerkraftwagen-Abteilung 14.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
