Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Bundeswehr Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun in a battle-ready configuration with a dark Forest Green finish and extensive camouflage netting. The vehicle features its large rotating air-defense turret with twin 35 mm autocannons, prominent forward target-tracking radar housing, raised rear surveillance-radar antenna, open roof hatch, optical equipment, smoke dischargers, and two tall radio antennas. Camouflage netting is draped across both gun barrels, the turret sides, and portions of the front hull.

Fine exterior details include front towing fittings, headlights, mirrors, hull access panels, engine-deck ventilation grilles, tow cables, rear stowage, and bundled equipment. The Leopard 1-derived running gear includes seven road wheels on each side, detailed drive components, and sharply reproduced continuous tracks. Bundeswehr crosses, tactical markings, and small warning details complement the muted green finish, while subtle dust, fading, grime, and track wear create a convincing operational appearance.

Vehicle History

The Gepard is an armored, all-weather self-propelled anti-aircraft gun developed in West Germany around the mobility of the Leopard 1 chassis. Its rotating turret combines an independent surveillance radar, a forward target-tracking radar, and two 35 mm automatic cannons, enabling the vehicle to detect, track, and engage low-flying aircraft and helicopters without relying entirely on external radar support. The surveillance radar can monitor targets at approximately 15 km, while the cannons provide rapid, concentrated fire against aerial and ground targets.

Powered by an approximately 830-horsepower engine, the Gepard can reach about 65 km/h while keeping pace with armored formations across difficult terrain. The first production vehicles entered Bundeswehr service during the 1970s and provided highly mobile short-range air defense throughout the Cold War. The Gepard remained an important part of German Army air-defense units for decades before being phased out of Bundeswehr service in 2010.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
