Model Overview

A Ready-Made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec German 88 mm Flak 18 in a dark gray field finish. This highly detailed model depicts the famous German heavy anti-aircraft gun mounted on its wheeled transport carriage, making it an excellent addition to anti-aircraft batteries, artillery displays, towing scenes, military convoys, and World War II dioramas.

The model features the Flak 18’s long 88 mm barrel with three white victory rings, recoil mechanism, protective gun shield, operator seats, elevation and traverse controls, aiming handwheels, cable reels, and detailed front and rear transport bogies. Tarp-covered equipment and stowed gear add to the operational appearance, while subtle dust, grime, rust-toned wear, and worn edges give the dark gray finish a convincing field-service appearance.

Vehicle History

The 8.8 cm Flak 18 was the first service model in the German family of heavy 88 mm anti-aircraft guns. It was distinguished by its single-piece barrel and was followed by the later Flak 36 and Flak 37 variants. Although designed primarily for air defense, the basic weapon system became one of Germany’s most recognizable artillery designs of World War II.

The gun was transported using detachable wheeled bogies at the front and rear. For firing, it was normally lowered onto its cruciform platform, which provided a stable mounting and wide traverse. Its weight required a towing vehicle, and heavy half-tracks were commonly used to move the weapon and its crew equipment.

The high velocity of the 88 mm cannon also made it highly effective against tanks, fortified positions, and other ground targets. Its ability to serve as an anti-aircraft, anti-tank, and conventional artillery weapon gave the German “88” its reputation as one of the most versatile guns of the conflict.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in service. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
