Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a Belgian Army Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft gun in a dark Forest Green finish. The vehicle features its large rotating air-defense turret with twin 35 mm autocannons, prominent forward tracking-radar housing, folded rear surveillance-radar antenna, open roof hatches, optical equipment, smoke dischargers, and two tall radio antennas. The turret is mounted on the distinctive tracked chassis derived from the Leopard 1.

Fine exterior details include front towing fittings, headlights, mirrors, hull access panels, engine-deck ventilation grilles, tow cables, rear stowage, and a bundled canvas cover. The running gear includes seven road wheels on each side, detailed drive components, and sharply reproduced continuous tracks. Belgian markings, registration plates, unit insignia, and small warning labels complement the muted green finish, while subtle dust, fading, grime, and track wear create a convincing operational appearance.

Vehicle History

The Gepard is an armored, all-weather self-propelled anti-aircraft gun developed around the mobility of the Leopard 1 chassis. Its turret combines independent surveillance and target-tracking radars with two 35 mm automatic cannons, allowing the vehicle to detect, track, and engage low-flying aircraft and helicopters without relying entirely on external radar support. The surveillance radar can monitor airspace out to approximately 15 km, while the guns have a combat range of up to 5,000 meters.

Powered by an approximately 830-horsepower engine, the Gepard can reach about 65 km/h while accompanying armored formations across difficult terrain. Belgium adopted the Gepard as part of the Leopard-family equipment used by its land forces, employing the vehicle as a mobile anti-aircraft tank during the Cold War. The type later became part of Belgium’s preserved military-vehicle heritage alongside other Leopard-based vehicles.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
