Model Overview

This Ready-Made Artitec model represents an early West German Marder 1A1 infantry fighting vehicle equipped with the MILAN anti-tank guided-missile system. The model reproduces the vehicle’s sloped hull, six-road-wheel tracked chassis, compact turret with 20 mm autocannon, MILAN launcher, rear-mounted weapon station, open hull hatch, and twin radio antennas in finely rendered 1:87 HO-scale detail.

The Marder is finished in the Bundeswehr’s solid yellow-olive color used before the adoption of later NATO three-color camouflage. Vehicle number 327, Bundeswehr cross markings, external tools, towing cable, camouflage netting, side stowage, rear equipment, lights, and lightly weathered running gear give the model a convincing operational appearance. Artitec identifies its Ready-Made models as hand-built from resin and etched-metal parts, individually hand-painted, and sometimes lightly weathered.

Vehicle History

The Schützenpanzer Marder 1 was developed for West Germany’s mechanized Panzergrenadier forces and entered German Army service in 1971. It combined tracked mobility and protected infantry transport with a turret-mounted 20 mm automatic cannon and an MG3 machine gun. The Marder was designed to operate alongside the Leopard 1 main battle tank and became one of the Bundeswehr’s principal armored vehicles during the Cold War.

The MILAN anti-tank guided-missile system was integrated into the Marder fleet between 1977 and 1979, allowing crews to engage tanks and other armored targets at greater distances. The Marder 1A1 modernization followed from 1979 through 1982 and included improvements to the 20 mm cannon’s ammunition feed and the vehicle’s night-fighting equipment. Early vehicles wore the Bundeswehr’s yellow-olive finish before later versions received NATO three-color camouflage and additional armor.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
