Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Wehrmacht Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär heavy assault gun in a heavily weathered winter finish. The vehicle features its tall fixed casemate, short-barreled 15 cm assault howitzer, broad rounded gun mounting, open roof hatches, shielded roof-mounted machine gun, and two radio antennas. Partially fitted Schürzen side armor remains along the hull, with several missing panels exposing sections of the tracks and upper running gear and giving the model a particularly worn, field-used configuration.

A distressed whitewash covers the underlying camouflage, with extensive fading, staining, grime, chipped areas, and exposed darker colors creating a convincing winter-service appearance. Fine exterior details include a rack of spare track links mounted across the lower front hull, headlights, towing fittings, tools, engine-deck access panels, rear storage boxes, spare road wheels, bundled equipment, and the large cylindrical exhaust muffler. Eight road wheels on each side, return rollers, sprockets, idlers, and sharply reproduced tracks complete the Panzer IV-derived running gear, while German crosses and authentic tactical markings reinforce the vehicle’s combat-used appearance.

Vehicle History

The Sturmpanzer IV, commonly known as the Brummbär, was a German heavy assault gun built on the Panzer IV chassis. It mounted a short-barreled 15 cm StuH 43 howitzer within a heavily armored fixed superstructure and was designed to provide close fire support against fortified positions, buildings, and other hardened targets.

Brummbär vehicles served with specialized assault-gun units during World War II and saw combat on multiple fronts. Their powerful high-explosive ammunition made them particularly effective during urban fighting and infantry-support operations. Temporary whitewash could be applied over the standard finish during winter operations to help conceal the vehicle in snowy terrain.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
