Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Wehrmacht Sturmpanzer IV Brummbär in dark-yellow-and-green camouflage. The heavy assault gun features its tall fixed armored superstructure, sharply angled front plate, rounded gun mounting, and short, thick 15 cm assault howitzer. Full Schürzen armor skirts protect the sides of the Panzer IV-derived chassis, while two tall radio antennas, open roof hatches, observation fittings, and a shielded roof-mounted machine gun complete the fighting compartment.

Fine exterior details include spare track links secured to the front hull, headlights, towing fittings, tools, engine-deck access panels, rear stowage boxes, spare wheels, bundled equipment, and the large cylindrical exhaust muffler. Eight road wheels on each side, return rollers, sprockets, idlers, and deeply reproduced tracks complete the running gear. German crosses and authentic tactical markings contrast with the muted camouflage, while dust, faded paint, worn edges, track grime, and restrained rust give the vehicle a convincing field-used appearance.

Vehicle History

The Sturmpanzer IV, commonly known as the Brummbär, was a German heavy assault gun developed on the Panzer IV chassis to provide protected, close-range fire support for infantry. Its turret was replaced by a heavily armored fixed superstructure carrying a short-barreled 15 cm StuH 43 L/12 howitzer. The vehicle used a five-man crew and was intended primarily to destroy fortified positions, buildings, and other strongpoints with heavy high-explosive ammunition.

Production began in 1943 and continued until the closing months of World War II, with roughly 300 vehicles completed. Brummbärs were organized into specialized Sturmpanzer units and employed where their heavy armor and powerful gun could support attacks against defended urban areas and field fortifications. The Deutsches Panzermuseum and the U.S. Army Field Artillery Museum preserve surviving examples of this uncommon assault vehicle.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
