Model Overview

This Ready-Made 1:87 / HO scale Artitec model depicts a late-production German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in a dark yellow finish. The 1944 configuration is distinguished by its rounded Saukopf gun mantlet and full Schürzen side armor. Balkenkreuz markings, restrained fading, track wear, dust, and grime give the vehicle a convincingly field-used appearance. Artitec lists this specific model as item 387.49-YW.

The model features the long 7.5 cm gun, low fixed superstructure, commander’s cupola, roof-mounted machine gun with protective shield, paired antenna details, spare road wheels on the rear engine deck, detailed tracks and running gear, tow fittings, and individually modeled side-armor panels. Artitec’s Ready-Made vehicles are constructed from resin with etched-metal components before being individually painted and weathered by hand.

Vehicle History

The Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. G, officially designated Sd.Kfz. 142/1, was a four-man German armored fighting vehicle armed with the long-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 40 gun. Although originally developed to provide direct fire support for infantry, later long-gun versions became highly effective in the anti-tank role. The Ausf. G was the final and most extensively used StuG III version during World War II.

Late-production vehicles received the rounded cast gun mantlet commonly called the Saukopf, or “pig’s head,” mantlet. Imperial War Museums identifies its introduction with the late-model StuG III in February 1944. Many Ausf. G vehicles also carried spaced Schürzen armor along their sides, intended to provide additional protection for the hull and running gear.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
