Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Wehrmacht StuG III Ausf. B assault gun in a heavily weathered German Gray finish. Its low, turretless profile features a compact fixed superstructure, sharply angled armor, and the short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24 gun used by early StuG III variants. Open roof hatches, observation fittings, a tall radio antenna, and the distinctive armored gun mounting capture the purposeful appearance of this early infantry-support vehicle.

Fine exterior details include side-mounted pioneer tools, tow cables, equipment containers, spare road wheels, and a rear deck crowded with tarpaulins and bundled field gear. Spare track sections are carried across the front hull and rear stowage rack. The Panzer III-derived running gear includes six road wheels on each side, three return rollers, front drive sprockets, rear idlers, and finely reproduced tracks. White German crosses contrast with the dark gray finish, while dust, grime, worn edges, track discoloration, and restrained rust create a convincing field-used appearance.

Vehicle History

The Sturmgeschütz III was developed to provide German infantry with protected, mobile direct-fire support against bunkers, fortified positions, machine-gun nests, and other battlefield strongpoints. Built on the Panzer III chassis, it replaced the conventional rotating turret with a low fixed superstructure, reducing the vehicle’s height while allowing a substantial gun and frontal armor to be carried. Early variants such as the Ausf. B mounted the short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24, which was intended primarily to fire high-explosive ammunition in the original assault-artillery role. The vehicle was operated by a four-man crew.

The Ausf. B entered production in 1940 and incorporated wider tracks, revised running-gear details, and a six-speed transmission on its modified Panzer III-derived chassis. Approximately 300 vehicles were produced through May 1941, and they served with independent assault-gun units supporting German infantry during the early campaigns of World War II. Later StuG III versions received longer, higher-velocity guns and became highly effective tank destroyers, but the Ausf. B represents the vehicle’s original conception as a compact, heavily protected infantry-support assault gun.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
