Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Wehrmacht StuG III Ausf. A-2 assault gun in a heavily weathered winter finish. Its low, turretless profile features the short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24 gun, compact angular fighting compartment, prominent early-pattern armored sighting channel, open roof hatches, raised observation fittings, and a tall radio antenna.

A distressed whitewash covers the German Gray base, with irregular fading, exposed darker surfaces, worn edges, grime, track discoloration, and restrained rust creating a convincing winter-service appearance. Side-mounted pioneer tools, tow cables, equipment boxes, a spare road wheel, tarps, sacks, and bundled field gear fill the upper hull and rear deck, while German crosses and the finely reproduced Panzer III-derived running gear complete the model.

Vehicle History

The Sturmgeschütz III was developed as a low-profile armored assault gun intended to accompany infantry and engage fortifications, gun positions, and other battlefield strongpoints with direct fire. The Ausf. A was the first production version, entering service in 1940 on a chassis derived from the Panzer III. It replaced the tank’s rotating turret with a fixed armored superstructure and carried the short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK 37 L/24 gun, which was primarily intended to deliver high-explosive support fire.

Only a relatively small initial group of Ausf. A vehicles was produced, but their use during the 1940 Western campaign demonstrated the effectiveness of the assault-gun concept and led to expanded production of later StuG III variants. Early Ausf. A through E vehicles retained the short infantry-support gun, while later versions received longer, higher-velocity weapons and increasingly served in the anti-tank role. Temporary winter whitewash could wear away rapidly in field service, exposing the darker original finish beneath and creating the mottled appearance represented by this model.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
