Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a German Sd.Kfz. 251/1 Ausf. B armored half-track equipped with Wurfrahmen rocket-launch equipment in a heavily worn winter finish. The distressed whitewash allows the underlying dark-gray coating to remain visible across the armored hull, launch frames, wheels, and tracks, while chipped edges, rust tones, grime, and operational wear create a convincingly field-used appearance.

Six angled Wurfrahmen launch crates are mounted along the vehicle’s sides, with three positioned on each side of the open fighting compartment. Interior detailing includes bench seating, wood-toned floorboards, rolled stowage, and equipment fittings. Additional features include shielded forward and rear machine-gun positions, German cross markings, antennas, mirrors, hull tools, front steering wheels, and a fully modeled tracked suspension.

Vehicle History

The Sd.Kfz. 251/1 was the standard armored personnel-carrier version of Germany’s Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track family. The Ausf. B was one of four principal production configurations, while the 251/1 designation also encompassed vehicles modified to carry Wurfrahmen rocket-launch equipment.

The Wurfrahmen 40 installation placed six adjustable launching plates on the armored half-track, with three mounted on each side. Wooden or steel carrying crates containing 280 mm high-explosive or 320 mm incendiary rockets were secured directly to the plates and elevated for firing. The mobile system delivered powerful area bombardment and became widely known by the nickname Stuka zu Fuß, or “Stuka on Foot.”

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
