The model features the M8’s angular armored hull, open-topped turret, 37 mm main gun, turret-mounted .50 caliber machine gun, twin antennas, open front hatches, and detailed six-wheel running gear. Vehicle History

The M8 Light Armored Car was a six-wheeled reconnaissance vehicle developed for the U.S. Army during World War II. Originally conceived as a mobile anti-tank vehicle, its 37 mm gun was no longer powerful enough to defeat increasingly heavy enemy tanks by the time the design reached production. The vehicle was therefore adopted for reconnaissance, screening, patrol, and security duties. Production began at Ford facilities in 1943.

Commonly known as the Greyhound, the M8 combined a relatively quiet engine and strong road speed with a compact armored hull. Its open-topped turret carried a 37 mm cannon and machine-gun armament, while the six-wheel-drive chassis gave reconnaissance crews the mobility needed to scout roads, screen advancing formations, and maintain contact between units. Its light armor protected against small-arms fire and shell fragments but was not intended for direct combat against tanks or heavily fortified positions.

The M8 entered combat during the Italian Campaign and later served extensively across Western Europe. U.S. and Allied forces used Greyhounds for reconnaissance, convoy escort, patrol, liaison, and occupation duties. The vehicle remained in service with numerous countries after World War II, reflecting the durability and usefulness of its straightforward wheeled design.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in service. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
