Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a U.S. Army M20 Scout Car in a weathered Olive Drab finish. The six-wheeled armored vehicle features its low, open-topped hull, sharply sloped front armor, hinged driver and passenger vision covers, front towing loops, and rear engine compartment. A circular skate-ring mount above the crew compartment carries a .50-caliber M2 Browning heavy machine gun, while two tall radio antennas reflect the M20’s reconnaissance and command functions.

The exposed interior includes forward driving positions, bench seating, equipment boxes, ammunition stowage, and additional compartment fittings. Exterior details include pioneer tools, coiled cables, side storage recesses, lifting rings, rolled tarps, packs, rear ventilation grilles, deeply treaded tires, and finely reproduced wheel hubs. White recognition stars, vehicle stenciling, and small identification markings complement the faded Olive Drab finish, with dust, grime, worn edges, and restrained rust creating a convincing field-used appearance.

Vehicle History

The M20 Armored Utility Car was developed from the same Ford-built chassis as the M8 Greyhound armored car. Removing the M8’s enclosed gun turret created a more spacious open crew compartment suitable for reconnaissance, command, liaison, personnel transport, and cargo duties. The vehicle retained protective armor and carried a ring-mounted .50-caliber machine gun, while command versions could accommodate additional radio equipment.

Originally developed by Ford as the T-26 Armored Command Car, the vehicle was designated M20 by the U.S. Army. Its six-wheel-drive chassis provided a top speed of approximately 56 mph and a cruising range of about 400 miles. Ford produced 3,791 M20 vehicles at its Chicago plant, giving Allied forces a fast and flexible armored vehicle for command and support operations.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
