Vehicle History

The M12 was an American heavy self-propelled artillery vehicle developed during World War II. It mounted a 155mm M1917, M1918, or M1918M1 gun on a modified M3 medium-tank chassis, with the engine repositioned to make room for the large rear-mounted weapon. Because space aboard the vehicle was limited, it carried only a small supply of ammunition and normally operated alongside the related M30 ammunition and cargo carrier.

One hundred M12s were produced during 1942 and 1943. Seventy-four were later overhauled for combat service before the 1944 campaign in France, where they supported US armored field-artillery battalions in Northwest Europe. The large rear spade was lowered into the ground to absorb recoil, and the powerful 155mm gun was used for both long-range indirect fire and direct attacks against fortified positions. The sole surviving M12 is preserved by the US Army Field Artillery Museum.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
