Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model reproduces a Soviet SU-85 tank destroyer in a heavily weathered forest-green finish. Subtle fading, dust, chipped edges, reddish-brown wear, and darkened running gear give the casemate, hull, tracks, and external equipment a convincingly field-used appearance. White tactical markings provide contrast against the green coating.

The fixed armored fighting compartment mounts a long 85 mm gun in the front casemate, with open roof hatches and observation fittings modeled above. Additional details include a radio antenna, front-mounted spare track links, an external tow cable, cylindrical auxiliary fuel tanks, rolled tarps, equipment bags, tools, engine-deck grilles, rear exhaust outlets, and the T-34-derived five-road-wheel suspension.

Vehicle History

The SU-85 was a Soviet tank destroyer developed from the SU-122 assault gun and built on the proven T-34 chassis. It replaced the SU-122’s howitzer with the D-5S 85 mm gun, giving Red Army formations a mobile weapon capable of engaging newer and more heavily armored German tanks at longer ranges. Production ran from August 1943 through September 1944.

Its fully enclosed casemate placed the fighting compartment toward the front while retaining the T-34’s engine, suspension, and general mobility. The four-person SU-85 entered combat in late 1943 and served in dedicated self-propelled artillery formations before being phased out in favor of the more powerful SU-100.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
