Model Overview

This ready-made Artitec model depicts the German Sd.Kfz. 7 eight-ton half-track artillery tractor in a dusty desert-yellow Deutsches Afrikakorps finish. The open vehicle features a detailed driver’s station, upright windshield frame, three rows of crew seating, distinctive front steering wheels, and the Sd.Kfz. 7’s complex tracked running gear.

Fine details include the steering wheel and controls, molded body panels and access doors, rear stowage area, open equipment rack, and a loosely draped canvas cover. Afrikakorps palm-tree markings appear on the front fenders and rear body panels. Layered dust, grime, worn surfaces, and darkened tracks give the vehicle a convincing service-used appearance suited to the North African Campaign. Artitec identifies item 6870066 as a ready-made 1:87 HO model made by hand from resin and etched-metal parts and individually hand-painted.

Vehicle History

The Sd.Kfz. 7, formally designated mittlerer Zugkraftwagen 8t, was a German medium half-track developed primarily as a heavy artillery tractor. Krauss-Maffei developed the vehicle in response to a 1934 requirement, with production models entering service in 1938. Its principal towing assignments included the 8.8 cm FlaK gun and the 15 cm sFH 18 heavy field howitzer.

The combination of steerable front wheels and tracked rear propulsion gave the Sd.Kfz. 7 greater cross-country mobility than a conventional truck. Its open passenger compartment carried the artillery crew and their equipment, while additional stowage was provided toward the rear. The vehicle served throughout World War II and was used extensively in North Africa, where its tracked running gear was particularly valuable in soft desert terrain.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
