Vehicle History

The DUKW was an American amphibious 2.5-ton truck developed during World War II to move cargo, troops, and supplies directly from ship to shore. Based on the GMC 6x6 truck chassis, the DUKW combined road wheels with a boat-like hull and propeller drive, allowing it to operate both on land and in the water.

Nicknamed the “Duck,” the DUKW became an important logistics vehicle during Allied amphibious operations. It was used to carry ammunition, fuel, food, medical supplies, and personnel across beaches where conventional trucks could not operate until landing areas were secured. In the Pacific Theater, vehicles like the DUKW were especially valuable because island landings often involved difficult surf, soft sand, coral beaches, and limited port facilities. During operations such as Iwo Jima, amphibious supply vehicles helped keep beachheads moving under extremely challenging conditions.

About Artitec Ready-Made Models

Artitec's Ready-Made models are handcrafted from high-quality resin and produced in limited runs. Each model is expertly preassembled, hand-painted, and often subtly weathered to recreate the appearance of a real vehicle in use. Because every model is finished by hand, small variations may occur, making each piece unique.

Artitec uses vacuum-cast resin to reproduce exceptionally fine, true-to-scale details that can be difficult to achieve with conventional manufacturing methods. Etched-brass parts are added where appropriate to capture delicate components and further enhance realism.

Each model is assembled, painted, and weathered by skilled specialists—a process requiring considerable time, precision, and experience. Artitec Ready-Made models are ideal for collectors seeking exceptional detail and realism without the time and effort required to build and finish a model kit.
